Dr. Grigori Simeonov

Born 1986 in Sofia (Bulgaria); BA in History (Sofia University, 2008), MA and DPhil in Byzantine Studies (2011 and 2019 respectively, both from the University of Vienna). The title of his thesis was: Everyday Life in Northern Macedonia, 11th-13th Century. He was a project assistant in the DFG Priority Programme 1630 Harbours from the Roman Period to the Middle Ages (2013-2018). His research in the Moving Byzantium Project (since September 2019) focuses on Valachian pastoralism in the Byzantine Empire, and the Episcopate of the Archbishopric of Ohrid, as well as the preparation of a sample database of out-migration from Byzantium, ca. 650-1025.
